Did you know that Coco Chanel was the first designer to incorporate scent in her clothing line, this brilliant idea has been copied by many designers to this day. I remember the day my obsession with Chanel perfumes began; it was in middle school during gym class. Us girls were changing in the locker room and an acquaintance ran up to me and tossed me a tiny sample of Chance by Chanel. Ever since that day I longed for Chanel perfume, to me Chanel is all about elegance. I just imagine the most well put together women spraying her favorite scent from Chanel on her wrists before her way out the door and I wanted to be as luxurious as them. So every once in a while I would walk up to the Macy's perfume counter and try on all the scents Chanel had to offer, but I just couldn't find the one. Don't get me wrong all their scents are incredible, but they just weren't for me. Then in September I started seeing Gabrielle Chanel perfume advertisements plastered all over New York and I instantly knew that Gabrielle was the one for me. I walked into Macy's and sprayed the scent on to my wrist and breathed in notes of jasmine, ylang ylang, orange blossom, and grasse tuberose. I picked up the bottle and looked straight at the saleswomen and without hesitation I blurted out "One large bottle, please." Since that point on Gabrielle by Chanel has been my signature scent.
Even though many of us have a signature scent, we also need a back up that is just as good. For me that's Si by Giorgio Armani, which is a nice change from Gabrielle's floral notes. Si includes middle notes of cassis, nectar, rose de mai, and freesia, but it's base notes are a lot more spicy. Si's base notes include chypre accord, musky wood, orcanox, and vanilla patchouli. This is a scent I definitely gravitate towards when I'm feeling adventurous, there's nothing like a fragrance boost for a big day. So next time you go to a concert with backstage passes, you're laying on a beach in Europe, or you're doing something you've never done before spray on Si and see where the night takes you.
